Viscose Company 6

6 leaving the engine house

Background

6 pulling hard up hillViscose Company 6 was built by Baldwin in 1925. The engine was sold to a scrap yard where it sat for many years until it was put up for auction. The winner brought the locomotive to New York for restoration. The restoration was completed in 2007. The engine was then test run on the New York & Lake Erie Railroad in Gowanda, New York. The locomotive pulled its first public excursion on July 7, 2007 from Gowanda to Cherry Creek. I am not certain of the owners future plans for the locomotive but it sure is nice to see steam running in New York again!
