The Ohio Central was created in 1984. It consisted of 35 miles of track and a small freight business. The owner of the Ohio Central also wanted to run steam locomotives. The railroad acquired a steam locomotive and began regular tourist trains. Today, the regular tourist trains have stopped, but special steam trips are still run many times a year. The freight business has grown considerably and the railroad now owns almost 500 miles of track.
The Ohio Central owns about 85 diesels, but you aren't going to find any information on this site about them - I just stick to the good stuff! In 2004, the railroad bought its tenth steam locomotive. Not all are operational, but many are close to it. The size range of these engines is from an 0-4-0 tank engine to a 4-8-4 that can pull mainline trains at mainline speeds. The Ohio Central plans on keeping steam alive with the goal of having all their engines operable at one time. If this happens I will be there!
