The Kinzers Shay railroad is a 30" gauge railroad that runs around the grounds of the Rough & Tumble Engineers' Historical Association. The railroad's only locomotive is the shay - hence the name. The shay was built in the 1970's for a private railroad and eventually found its way to Kinzers. The engine is used during the annual Thesherman festival.
I was at Kinzers in 2003. The shay was actually the first thing I saw as I was driving toward Kinzers, so I knew it was going to be a good day! The shay runs non-stop all day right up to closing and it is a good way to see the grounds. It is like shooting fish in a barrel to chase the shay because the track is a circle and trains run constantly.
