Dry Gulch Railroad

pulling into the station

Background

about to go under a walkwayThe Dry Gulch Railroad operates two 24" gauge locomotives at Hershey Park. The engines were built in the 1980's by crown. The train trip has changed only slightly over the years. The train starts out crossing a large trestle and runs under and around roller coasters during the circle trip. The climb up the hill to the station is steep and gives the little engines a good workout.

My Visit

working hard up the hillI was at Hershey Park in August 2003. It felt like the hottest day of the year. The roller coasters here are great and the Hershey factory tour is very interesting and air conditioned! The railroad is a good way to be outside without burning up in a line with thousands of people. There were two trains running when I was there so there was never a wait to ride or photograph the trains.
