The Greenfield Village is a part of the Henry Ford Museum. The village is a recreation of what a typical town would be like in the the 1800's. The village has many scaled down replicas of buildings that are significant to Henry Ford, such as his original factory. The Weiser Railroad carries visitors around the village making stops at a few stations along the three mile loop. The engine running the day I was there is the oldest operating steam locomotive in regular service in the United States. This 0-6-4 mason bogie was built for the Helca and Torch Lake Railroad in 1873. The engine came to Greenfield Village in 1969 and continues to run nearly every day during the summer.
I was at the Henry Ford Museum on June 18, 2005. This was a special event day at the Greenfield Village. It was the annual Motor Muster car show. If you want to see a massive classic car show, then this is the place to be! The entire village is very clean and looks great. The train ride takes the passengers to three stations along the line and passes some very nice scenery. It was interesting to watch the train pass by the old style houses with cattle grazing and women planting fields by hand. This place is really a step back in time and you can tell that great care is taken to give that impression.
