Walt Disney loved trains and when he designed his first park, he had a steam train circling the grounds. Well, when it came time to build Disney world in Florida, he wanted a steam railroad there as well. The Disney World railroad bought four steam locomotives from Mexico and brought them back to Florida. These engines were built from 1911 - 1925. Many people over look these engines because of their bright colors, but like everything else at Disney World, they are kept in great shape. Where else in the United States does steam still run 365 days a year.
Most people go to Disney World to see Mickey and ride space mountain. I go for that too, but I go for the trains! This place may not look like a great place to see steam locomotives, but they have at least two engines running everyday. The trains run continuously around the park and there is never a long wait between trains. I will admit my main purpose in going to Disney is not the trains, but when my family goes on the kiddie rides, I go train hunting. These pictures were taken January 3, 2000 and all within about an hour, except for the bottom picture.
Disney is viewable with Terraserver's urban areas, so everything is much clearer, closer and crisper.
