Mount Washington Ski Trains
I love trains and I love skiing so when I saw the Cog was opening up the line to skiers and using the train as the ski lift, I knew I had to go. I live about 9 hours from Mount Washington, so i left my home at about 10 p.m. New Years eve and drove straight threw the night and pulled into the cog station just as the first engine was coming up from the shops - talk about a great way to bring in the new year! Unfortunately, there had been unseasonably warm weather the week before I got there and there was not much snow left to ski on. This did not bother me though, I bought my lift/train ticket (how cool is that) and got on the train, my girlfriend and I were the first two passengers of the 2005 season and I was the first passenger to ski the railroad in 2005. They had two engines alternating with the ski train and while we were there they were firing up another engine that had just come out of an overhaul - I have to say it again, talk about a good way to start off the year!
