Armitage Herschell

running in Orrilia

History

carry 32 passengers serial number 0001This steam locomotive was built by the Armitage Herschell Company in North Tonawanda New York back in 1896. The engine was used at the World's Fair and eventually found its was up to a park in Orrilia Ontario. It ran in this park for many years nearly every day during the summer. I used to visit this engine every year I went on Vacation in Canada. The engine stopped operating back in 1999 (I think - correct me if I am wrong) because of new boiler codes in Canada and the club that ran it did not have the money to bring the engine up to code.

Today

look inside at the fireThe engine has since been brought back to North Tonawanda and is supposedly going to be part of a canal side park that has been proposed. I will post more up to date details of what happens as soon as I find out myself.
